On November 23, 2020 it was announced that Maspeth High School’s National Art Honor Society would be holding a festival event/contest. Families were asked to create something that depicts how they celebrate the winter season at home.
The requirements were to have two process photos and a final photo. The process photos helped show the judges that there was time and effort put into submissions. Also showing the process behind the final product helped to create some bonding time for families, especially because with all the stressors of this holiday season, it can be hard to find time to spend with loved ones. This was the idea that helped inspire the event.
There were many entries, but only three were selected for the top spots. Each of the winning artists received Amazon gift cards in recognition of their hard work and achievement.
After a few weeks of judging, the winners were announced on December 15, 2020. The third place prize went to Kelly O, who created a Christmas tree scene made of clay. Second place went to Sabrina O who created a gingerbread house. The first place winner was Sebastian P who created a door mural.
Mrs. Lara commented saying, “it was really nice to see the participation of students and their families in a fun, festive, creativity-driven event” and that “NAHS thanks all of the participants and their families. We can’t wait to do more contests in the future!”
