What we do:

Maspeth's Law Club is an academic club that builds student knowledge and awareness of the judicial system through participation in Moot Court and Mock Trial.

During the first half of the year, students prepare for a citywide Moot Court competition. Moot court simulates an appellate-level proceeding in which students prepare and argue a case before a panel of judges that evaluates the students on the quality and persuasiveness of their legal reasoning and presentation, as well as their unscripted responses to spontaneous questions from the bench.
 
For the second half of the year, students prepare for the statewide Mock Trial competition. This competition simulates a trial-level proceeding, civil or criminal, in which students portray the roles of prosecuting and defense attorneys or witnesses before a single presiding judge.
 
Both Moot Court and Mock Trial teams spend months preparing for these demanding competitions. In addition to learning about courtroom procedures and the rule of law, students learn about teamwork, goal setting, planning, and public speaking.
 
Throughout the process, students work with a team of dedicated attorneys from Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, a Manhattan-based law firm ranked as one of the top firms in the nation (U.S. News and World Report).
